Garbage and Recycling Pick Up
Single family homes and two and three flats are eligible for city garbage and recycling pick up. Large residential buildings, non-profits, and commercial buildings must provide their own trash pick-up and recycling services.
Request new or replacement bins. In general, these requests take 2-3 weeks to fulfill.
Recycling and Composting
You can help improve Chicago’s recycling rate by ensuring trash isn’t mixed with recyclables.
Recycle electronics and household chemicals at the city recycling facility on Branch Street.
You can compost food scraps for free at a number of locations across the city. Currently, these are drop off locations only. The city does not yet offer curbside composting services. Private services do offer compost pick up.
