Volunteering with the 47th Ward Office

Thank you for interest in volunteering to serve Chicago's 47th Ward! Great neighborhoods aren't created out of thin air; rather, they're the product of residents and public servants working hand in hand.

47th Ward volunteers bring donations to service agencies, organize community events, wrap gifts for families around the winter holidays, shovel snow for those who need it, and more. To help, click get involved to volunteer with the 47th Ward office.

Volunteering With local organizations

Food Pantries

Our local food pantries regularly need volunteers to help stock and distribute food. Find out more about volunteer opportunities at each pantry:

Refugee Support

Local volunteers organized a support network for newly arrived refugees. Based on interest, volunteers sort donations, teach ESL classes, search for housing, drive people to doctors appointments, and more. Volunteers who speak Spanish, or who have a legal or social work background are especially needed.

Environmentalism

There are many terrific local organizations dedicated to protecting our environment. Protect our River for recreation and wildlife by getting involved with Riverbank Neighbors or Friends of the Chicago River. Consider volunteering with Reduce Waste Chicago to keep hard to recycle items out of our landfills. Or get involved with Montrose Metra Gardens or the Winnslie Parkway to support native gardens in the neighborhood.

Donations for Families

Located in the 47th Ward, Cradles to Crayons provides school supplies, clothes, toys, and more to Chicago families. They regularly need help sorting donations at their local warehouse.
