What Alderman Martin Has Done
Doubled the required affordable units in new, big developments in a reform to the city’s Affordable Requirement’s Ordinance (ARO).
Removed barriers to build affordable homes, including by legalizing accessory dwelling units and allowing multi-family developments on Western Ave.
Championed landmark developments including a fully affordable development near the Western Brown Line, preserving a key senior living facility, and approving Chicago’s first-ever permanent supportive housing for survivors of domestic violence.

Remove more barriers to building affordable homes by making it easier to build housing near transit, on vacant lots, and on arterial streets.
Protect two- and three-flats in the 47th Ward, discourage their demolition or conversion, and provide support to owners to repair their homes.
Hold the Chicago Housing Authority accountable to more quickly fill vacant units.
Transportation & InfrastructurE
What Alderman Martin Has Done
Invested in and improved access to transit, including securing $20M to renovate the Western Brown Line station, extending the #9 Ashland bus route, and approving rush-hour bus lanes on key streets.
Made it safer to walk and bike in the 47th Ward by adding improvements near every public school in the ward and expanding our local bike network.
Improve efficiency of infrastructure projects by requiring more improvements be included when major streets are resurfaced.

Restoring transit service and appointing a new President of the CTA to lead the agency to recovery.
Improving bus service on Western Ave and connection to neighborhoods across the city by implementing bus rapid transit.
Building a grid of protected bike lanes citywide to give Chicagoans more options to safely travel the city.
Safety
What Alderman Martin Has Done
Invested in violence prevention by supporting $45M in new funding for violence prevention organizations and leading efforts to triple funding for survivors of gender-based violence.
Ensure police officers are efficiently and effectively deployed across the city by ordering a workforce allocation study, empowering the city to make better, data-driven decisions about deployment.
Improve accountability and oversight by requiring significant public input on the selection on the Police Superintendent and Police Department policy.
Alderman Martin is Working On
Conduct a robust analysis of 9-1-1 calls to better inform which calls require responses from sworn CPD officers and which calls can be responded to by other city employees.
Make it easier for victims of crime to access police reports online and automatically dismiss illegitimate tickets for victims of stolen cars.
Support adult survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault by building a multi-agency center where survivors can access services including therapy, housing navigation, childcare, and more.
Ethics and Transparency
What Alderman Martin Has Done
Banned Alderpeople from having problematic side gigs like property tax attorneys.
Strengthened the Inspector General’s Office, an independent agency that investigates waste, fraud, and abuse, including by allowing them to investigate City Council.
Raised the bar for transparency by becoming the first Alderman to publish all zoning applications and decisions online and hosting the first-ever 47th Ward participatory budgeting process.
Alderman Martin is Working On
Pass comprehensive campaign finance reform to reduce opportunities for pay to play politics, amplify the voice of everyday people, and require transparency from dark money Super PACs.
Close a major loophole to stop executives with city contracts from making large political contributions to city officials.
Education
What Alderman Martin Has Done
Supported the creation of an Elected School Board to finally give Chicagoans a real voice in CPS leadership decisions and to increase public accountability.
Improved our school facilities by adding a new turf field at McPherson Elementary, renovating bathrooms at Ravenswood Elementary, and ventilation system overhauls at Amundsen and Lane Tech High Schools.
Funded additional mental health and arts programming for students through an Aldermanic micro-grant program.
Alderman Martin is Working On
Continuing to improve school facilities like replacing elevators and renovating underutilized spaces at Lake View High School.
Expanding access to affordable, quality childcare by eliminating child care deserts, providing more scholarships, and attracting a larger, highly qualified workforce.
Environment
What Alderman Martin Has Done
Ramped up efforts to address climate change by re-establishing Chicago’s Department of the Environment and spearheading efforts to hold big oil companies accountable for their actions causing climate change.
Improved access to alternative transportation options that lower our emissions by requiring electric vehicle charging stations in large, new buildings, building safer bike infrastructure, and speeding up local buses.
Tackled Chicago’s low recycling rate by calling for hearings that resulted in a new waste management strategy and the funding of regional composting drop-off programs.
Alderman Martin is Working On
Improve enforcement of corporate polluters by increasing funding for the Department of the Environment and empowering the Department to ticket polluters.
Provide curbside composting service to keep food waste out of landfills.
Establish green building standards by setting carbon-output guidelines for new, large buildings and piloting geothermal technology.
Small Business
What Alderman Martin Has Done
Cut red tape for small businesses by passing legislation to legalize walk-up windows, make it easier to get a sidewalk cafe, and allow small grocery stores to sell products earlier on Sundays.
Helped small businesses rebound from the pandemic by making expanded outdoor dining permanent and aiding local businesses in securing Chicago Recovery Grants.
Alderman Martin is Working On
Make it easier to run a successful small business by streamlining the sidewalk cafe application, updating outdated permit requirements for nail and hair salons, and creating a simpler process for more vendors to participate in street festivals.
Workers
What Alderman Martin Has Done
Raised the minimum wage to $15 per hour, indexed to inflation.
Guaranteed paid time off for every full-time employee in Chicago and ensured workers receive notice of their work schedules ahead of time.
Made it easier to form a union without intimidation by requiring major city contractors maintain neutrality in union drives.
Alderman Martin is Working On
Forgive debt from ambulance rides for uninsured residents with old bills, so to not discourage residents from seeking emergency medical care.
Expand rights for ride share drivers so that they can earn a living wage and can benefit from basic safety protections.
