How Do i Throw away large items?

If you receive city garbage pick-up, Streets and Sanitation will pick-up furniture and other large items with your regular pick-up. We are not able to make special pick-ups for these items, so we recommend placing the item outside on your regular pick-up day to avoid obstructing the alley.

If you live in a building with five or more units, you do not receive city garbage pick up. In this case, you will likely need a private service to pick-up your item.

Complaints about Illegal Dumping

Trash commonly dumped without authorization includes old furniture, tires, construction debris, and appliances. If someone fly dumps in your alley, you can report it to 3-1-1. You will be asked if you witnessed the dumping, and if so, whether you have a license plate number for the offender or a description of their vehicle.
