Rodent Abatement

If you have rats in your backyard or alley, you can put in a request for rodent abatement. While this may solve the immediate issue, if you have a persistent issue with rodents you may need to identify what is attracting them. Most of the time, these are preventable issues. Make sure there is no open garbage in your dumpster by making sure dumpsters are closed tightly and that none of the trash bins in your alley have holes in them. If you are placing a request for your backyard to be baited, you will need to confirm that city workers can conduct work on their property in person when the crew arrives. After placing the request through 311, residents may also follow up with the department at (312) 746-5230 to schedule a time for the crew to bait their backyard

Residents can expect crews to arrive within 10 days of the request, and most likely in the morning. Rodent abatement requests typically take about two weeks to complete.

Steps

  1. Go to CHI311 and place a request for rodent abatement.

If you need help placing your request on 311’s online portal, read our help article on submitting requests.
